Introduction to Empowerment
October 15, 2024The Power of Storytelling in Empowerment | Felicia Ray Owens
October 22, 2024A few years ago, I found myself running on autopilot. My days were filled with tasks, obligations, and endless to-do lists, but I didn’t feel truly connected to my life or my purpose. I was busy, but not fulfilled. That’s when I realized something needed to change—I needed to be more intentional about how I was living.
Intentionality, for me, began with small shifts. I started asking myself simple questions: What do I want out of today? How do I want to feel by the end of this week? These questions might seem trivial, but they opened the door to greater awareness. I started being more mindful of my choices—how I spent my time, the relationships I nurtured, and the goals I pursued.
One of the biggest shifts came in how I managed my mornings. Rather than waking up and jumping straight into the busyness of the day, I began carving out time for myself. I created a morning routine that allowed me to set intentions for the day ahead. Whether it was journaling, meditating, or simply enjoying a cup of tea in silence, this small act of intentionality gave me a sense of control and peace before the day unfolded.
Intentionality also meant becoming more deliberate about the commitments I made. I had to learn the power of saying no to things that didn’t align with my values or priorities. It wasn’t easy at first—I’ve always been someone who wanted to please others. But over time, I realized that saying no to one thing was actually saying yes to something more important. It gave me the space to focus on what truly mattered.
How to Start Living Intentionally
Living with intention doesn’t require a grand overhaul of your life. In fact, it’s often about making small but meaningful changes. Start by asking yourself what you really want out of life—what are your core values? What brings you joy? Then, take steps to align your daily choices with those values.
For me, living with intention has transformed how I approach everything. I feel more in control of my time, more connected to my purpose, and more fulfilled in the little moments.
