When people talk about where tax dollars should go, the conversation usually comes back to the same three areas.
Not because they are political talking points, but because they shape daily life.
Whether a child has access to a strong school.
Whether a family can afford to stay in their home.
Whether someone can get care without it turning into long-term debt.
These are the systems people rely on, quietly, every day.
At the same time, there is a growing sense that the way money moves through the system does not always reflect those priorities.
Some of that comes from how federal budgets are structured. Some of it comes from tax policy. Some of it comes from how resources are distributed over time.
And for most people, it is not always clear how those decisions get made or who they ultimately benefit.

What we are seeing right now is not just frustration.
It is people trying to understand how systems work and asking whether those systems are aligned with what they need to live and stay in a community long-term.
That shows up in conversations about affordability, growth, wages, and access to basic services.
It shows up in questions about long-term planning, not just short-term fixes.
This is part of a much longer conversation.
One that has always been about stability, fairness, and whether people have a voice in decisions that shape their lives.
That is what May Day has represented for generations.
