What Is May Day? History, Meaning, and Why It Matters

New Braunfels Election Day 2026: Polls Close at 7 PM
Today is May Day.
Here in New Braunfels, many of us are spending the day under severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, and flood warnings. Weeks ago, our team made the decision to host May Day NBTX as a virtual event, and today that decision feels especially meaningful.
May Day has always been about people. Working people. Families. Caregivers. Teachers. Tradespeople. Small business owners. Service workers. Parents. Neighbors. Everyday people who help keep our communities moving.
And even from home, we can still show up.
Throughout today, people across our community are taking part in different ways:
Signing the May Day pledge.
Sharing May Day articles and resources.
Recognizing someone who keeps their world moving.
Supporting local businesses online.
Starting conversations that matter.
Now we want to hear from you.
Tell us how you’re taking part today.
Use the comments below and share one or more of these:
Did you sign the May Day pledge?
Did you share a May Day article, image, or message?
Who are you recognizing today and why?
Did you support a local business?
What business should we add to our local shopping list?
What does May Day mean to you?
If you post on social media, tag F.A.N. so we can help amplify your voice.
