What is May Day
May Day has long been recognized as a day centered around workers, labor, and the role everyday people play in shaping their communities and economies.
Across the country, many communities observe May Day as a time to step back from routine and reflect on how work, money, and access impact daily life. In some places, this includes choosing not to work, attend school, or participate in regular consumer activity for the day.
The theme “Workers Over Billionaires” reflects a broader conversation about economic balance, local impact, and who communities are built to support. It raises questions about wages, cost of living, access to resources, and how decisions made at higher levels affect people locally.
At the same time, this is also a day where people are encouraged to be intentional about where they spend their time and money. That includes supporting local businesses and learning more about how those businesses operate and show up in the community.
There is no single way to participate. Some people choose to step back. Others choose to engage. The goal is awareness, presence, and understanding what this day represents in a local context.
May Day NBTX is a local expression of a broader May Day tradition centered on workers, community, and economic awareness. In New Braunfels, this day is meant to create space for people to reflect, connect, and participate in ways that feel meaningful and accessible. This is not a single-issue event. It brings together local voices, community concerns, and everyday people who want to be more intentional about how they show up, what they support, and where they invest their time, attention, and money.
