F.A.N. Green Team | Creek Cleanups & Watershed Education

What is the Watershed Initiative?

This initiative focuses on protecting local waterways through seasonal creek cleanups and community education.

In partnership with the Geronimo and Alligator Creeks Watershed Partnership, this work supports efforts to improve water quality, reduce pollution, and strengthen awareness of how land and water systems connect locally.

This is ongoing work that takes place throughout the year.

Why This Work Exists

Geronimo and Alligator Creeks run through the same communities where people live, work, and spend time every day.

These waterways have been identified as having elevated bacteria levels and ongoing water quality concerns. Over time, trash, runoff, and everyday activity build up in these areas, and what ends up on the ground eventually makes its way into the water.

As the region continues to grow, increased runoff, waste, and land use changes place additional pressure on these creeks. This affects more than the water itself. It impacts local ecosystems and how these spaces can be used by the community.

Cleanup efforts and education are part of an ongoing effort to reduce that impact and protect these waterways over time.

This work is simple, but it matters. And it depends on people who live here choosing to take part.

Watershed Education
&
Community Learning

This work goes beyond cleanup events.

Throughout the year, this initiative includes community education focused on how local land and water systems function and how people can take part in protecting them.

These sessions are practical, accessible, and rooted in local conditions.

How to Participate

You can come as you are.

Some people show up for a few hours.

Some come with friends or family.

Some return each season and begin to recognize the same areas over time.

No experience is needed. Supplies are provided, and each location includes a short safety overview before cleanup begins.

Because this work takes place outdoors, it’s important to dress accordingly. Wear closed-toe shoes and clothing that protects your skin from the sun, wind, and brush. You may encounter uneven terrain, insects, or wildlife, so it helps to come prepared for the environment.

You don’t have to know anything about watershed work to take part. You just need to be willing to show up and help.

Most of the work is simple. Picking up debris, clearing areas, and moving through spaces that are often overlooked.

Over time, those small efforts add up. Areas begin to look different. Water moves differently. People notice.

The goal is simple. Show up, contribute, and leave the space better than you found it.

This initiative is supported through F.A.N. Green Team, part of Felicia’s Action Network.
