The richest man on earth is requesting a hardship variance because he didn’t read the rules before buying his $6 million property.
Elon Musk, now represented by Central Texas Permit Partners LLC, purchased a low-lying property in a quiet cul-de-sac in West Lake Hills that did not meet his privacy needs. Musk constructed taller fencing than allowable, put a keypad-operated gate in the public right-of-way, and even installed security cameras that record neighbors — all without acquiring the proper city permits.
After hearing about the negative impact on neighbors from the volume of staff coming and going at all hours day and night, with vehicles waiting to access the property blocking traffic, the West Lake Hills Zoning and Planning Commission unanimously denied his request. However, their recommendation must be adopted by the City Council. In an effort to arrive at a favorable ruling, Musk and his team have successfully delayed their agenda item two months.
Speak out against against special exceptions for Elon

Sign up now to let us know you plan to testify or submit written remarks — it isn’t fair for those with the most resources to break rules made to keep our communities safe and livable. We’ll follow up with information about how you can sign up to speak or where to send remarks once the City publishes the agenda. And better yet, come join us in-person to show Council just how much we care about preserving the quality of our neighborhoods for the people who actually live in them!
